Theramore’s Fall and post 5.0.4 Discipline Priesting!

I admittedly have not played my priest more than a handful of times at max level since late Lich King.  I was discipline at that time, and have continued to prefer the discipline play style to the holy one.  Braelyan is the Holy Priest, not me.  In addition, she rocks it, btw!  I had felt underwhelmed with discipline priesting in Cataclysm.  Atonement just did not feel as natural as I thought it would, and playing her shadow in less than awesome gear just did not work well for me.  I have not really ever felt like shadow priesting was my thing.

With the release of Theramore’s fall on September 17th, I have gotten to play my Priest quite a bit with the new talents.  You may see how I have them set up on my character, Caressa, however, I did just kind of say “oh that looks fun” without any research, so they are a work in progress.  I tried the first few pulls as shadow and, again felt out of my element.  What buttons do I push?! My two guild mates were both in less than DS gear as well, so we were taking a little damage and I ran out of mana.  I decided to swap into Discipline and smite things to death.  Oh.  My.  God.  It felt so awesome!  I really feel like atonement since 5.0.4 is where I thought it was going to be with 4.0!  Everything felt natural as I was dpsing, and I never felt like I needed to spam flash heal to catch up…which I had, before the patch.  I am actually considering bringing Caressea back out as one of my “main alts”.  Before, I considered her to be in “lol craft me bags” mode only.

Now a few thoughts on Theramore’s fall…I realize that having not read the lore in the newest book yet, I do not know much about the story.  However, I did not really expect the scenario to be a huge story.  I loved the simple style.  I am fond of those kinds of directions though, even in real life.  I did not expect this preview to be an earth shattering event, but rather something to occupy my time for a bit, and earn some guild gold by doing it as a guild group, while we wait for Pandaria to hit.  To me, it is just like an appetizer, something to do.  In fact, Eluna got a new tanking weapon the very first time I ran through it!  I can understand where people, who were expecting it to be more, or, have read the lore, would be disappointed though.  I do hold out hope that this tease is just a preview and there is more to the story when we hit level 90.

  1. I am loving the current Discipline model. I tried making mine as my main for MoP, but healers were not needed in my guild right now. I can swap from Smite healing to SoS tank healing whenever I want, although it won’t be maximized due to different glyphing.
